Paul Nelson is a versatile Los Angeles-based trombonist, composer, and educator. He leads Paul Nelson’s Big Ol’ Band, a premier 17-piece ensemble dedicated to his original compositions and arrangements. Following a successful release show in February 2026, the ensemble has dates booked throughout the year.

Beyond his work as a bandleader, Paul serves as the Director of Jazz Bands at Brentwood School and maintains a private studio for low brass and music production. His performance credits include collaborations with legendary figures such as the Bob Mintzer Big Band, Bill Holman, Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, and the Dave Slonaker Big Band, as well as contemporary artists like Silvana Estrada, Futurebirds, and Bret McKenzie.

Paul’s recording work spans television and commercial recordings for high-profile projects and artists, including ESPN's March Madness, Ringo Starr, Billy Porter, and Paramount’s Rise of the Pink Ladies.
